Abacus China began our presence in 1995 with the opening
of a Representative Office in Beijing - a major step in establishing
a foothold in China market. The objectives then were to build relationships
with the Civil Aviation Authority of China and to gain the participation
of the Chinese carriers in Abacus reservation system. A total of
eight Chinese Carriers (with three major Groups) have since participated
under the Abacus Airline Participation Agreement, making Abacus
being the GDS with the most participating Chinese carriers as compared
to our competitors. They are:
- Air China Group
(consists of Air China, Southwest Airline, ZheJiang Airline)
- China Eastern Group
(consists of China Eastern, Yunnan Airlines, Northwest Airlines)
- China Southern Group
(consists of China Southern, Northern Airlines, XingJiang Airlines)
- Shanghai Airlines, FM
- Xiamen Airlines, MF
- Shangdong Airlines, SC
- Shenzhen Airlines, ZH
- Hainan Airlines, HU
- Sichuan Airlines, 3U
In 1999, Abacus established an office in Shanghai to
support the Eastern China market.
Another office in Guangzhou was subsequently established in May
2000
and Shenzhen office in Dec 2005 to extend our presence into the
Southern China region, thus providing comprehensive service and
support to the entire China.
In February 2001, TravelSky is formed by Civil Aviation
Authority of China (CAAC) and the Chinese carriers with the IPO
in Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Abacus/Sabre was invited to be one
of the Strategic Partners for TravelSky with an investment during
their IPO debut.
Currently TravelSky is hosting all the Chinese Carriers
in China and is the only approved reservations system in China for
domestic and international bookings.
