Established in May 1988, Singapore-based Abacus is
the largest Global Distribution Systems (GDS) in Asia-Pacific. Abacus
today serves over 10,000 agency located in 24 markets.
Abacus has 24 markets over the Asia-Pacific, including
Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India,
Indonesia, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan,
Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
In 1998, as for global expansion, Abacus has formed
a strategic alliance with Sabre, the largest GDS in the US and a
leader in the electronic distribution of travel and travel-related
services, and set up a company called Abacus International Pte.
Ltd. (AIPL). Sabre takes a 35 percent equity investment in Abacus
and Abacus International Holdings, 65 percent. Abacus International
Holdings is jointly owned by a consortia of 11 Asia & Pacific
Airlines; All Nippon Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, China Airlines,
EVA Airways, Garuda Indonesia, DragonAir, Malaysia Airlines, Philippine
Airlines, Royal Brunei Airlines, SilkAir and Singapore Airlines.
This potent combination of Abacus and Sabre makes us the strongest
GDS in the world.
In 1990, Abacus together with All Nippon Airways (ANA)
established a multi-million US Dollar joint-venture CRS in Japan
known as INFINI. It is Japan's first full-scale CRS with Abacus
holding 40 percent equity share in the venture and ANA, 60 percent.
The Japanese reservations system switched to the Abacus/Sabre system
in November 2000.
Abacus enjoys the best of both worlds as Abacus' partners
reflect both our Asian heritage coupled with an international outlook
and expertise.
